What is your endowment plan really returning?

Find out what your endowment policy may earn each year, based on the premiums you pay and the benefits you receive. You can also compare it with an alternative investment.

Enter your policy details

Take these figures from your policy's benefit illustration or policy document.

Enter the premium amount you actually pay, as shown in your policy document.

Payouts are assumed at the end of each policy year. If the last payout falls in the final year, it is added to the maturity benefit.
Tax deductions on premiums (for example Section 80C under the old tax regime) are not considered in this calculator.
Gain = total benefits − total premiums, taxed once at maturity at your slab plus 4% cess. Surcharge is ignored.

Compare with another investment

What if you invested the same premiums elsewhere?

Choose an assumed annual return (for example, what you might expect from an FD or a debt fund) to estimate how the alternative investment and the policy benefits could compare at the end of the policy term. This is an illustrative comparison, not a forecast or a guarantee.

Use an after-tax figure if you turned on the tax option above.

This is the annualised return implied by the premiums and benefits entered, taking their timing into account. It is not the same as the total percentage gain over the policy term.

The comparison does not fully account for differences in investment risk, liquidity, tax treatment or life insurance cover. The alternative return is an assumption, not a promised return.

Important notes

  • Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is the annualised rate of return implied by the premiums you pay and the benefits you receive, taking into account when each payment is made or received. It represents the annual interest rate at which an investment would need to grow to match the same cash flows over the same period. This is a calculated measure of return, not a return guaranteed or declared by the insurer.
  • Bonuses and other non-guaranteed amounts shown in a benefit illustration may turn out lower or higher than illustrated.
  • The same premium is assumed every year, paid at the start of each policy year, with benefits received at the end of the year. Results may be approximate for older policies where the premium changed over time, for example because GST applied in earlier years.
  • Disclaimer. This calculator provides illustrative estimates based on the information entered. Actual benefits, bonuses, tax treatment and returns may differ. The calculation does not assign a monetary value to the life cover provided by the policy. It is intended for educational purposes and should not be the sole basis for an insurance or investment decision. Please verify the figures against your policy documents and applicable tax rules.
